You have been waiting for enough motivation to start. The motivation does not come. Or it comes, briefly, and then it goes. The task remains.

The problem is usually not motivation. The problem is that the ask is too large.

When a task is vague, large, or loaded with judgment, the brain treats it as a threat. The resistance is proportional to the perceived cost of engaging. Make the ask small enough that the cost drops below the threshold of resistance.

Not 'write the essay.' Write one paragraph. Not 'exercise.' Put on your shoes. Not 'fix my relationship with money.' Open the spreadsheet.

Small enough that failure is not catastrophic. Small enough that you can actually do it today. Small enough that starting feels possible.

Motivation is a feeling. Systems are structures. You build systems. You wait for feelings.
